Great reporting. A comment: don’t say that “the police are acting in kind,” because that implies they are merely giving back what they received, e.g. violent action. And I don’t think the citizens are looking to incite the police to respond violently, rather they are protesting peacefully and are completely rejecting violence in any form from anyone, including and especially the police.
